A union parishad chairman of Laxmipur district died from fever and cold related issues including breathing problem at a private hospital in the capital on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sahid Ullah, chairman of Ichhapur union of Ramganj. Ramganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Muntasir Jahan said that the UP chairman had been suffering from fever and cold related issues for the last few days. As his condition deteriorated, he was taken to Dhaka on Saturday night and he died on Sunday at Anwer Khan Modern Hospital while undergoing treatment, said the UNO. According to the civil surgeon’s office, so far 575 confirmed coronavirus cases have been detected in the district till Sunday. Bangladesh on Sunday reported 3,531 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 1,12,306. In the last 24 hours, 39 more patients lost their lives, raising the death toll to 1,464.
‘Drug trader’ killed in Pabna ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Par Karamja in Satthia upazila early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Sobhan, 40, son of Abdur Rashid of Karamja Sardarpara village.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 2:30 pm, said Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, superintendent of Pabna Police. Sensing the presence of police, the criminals opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back in self-defense. Sobhan was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injury while the others managed to flee the scene. Later, he was taken to Bera Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.

Members of Bangladesh Police have arrested two ‘robbers’ and covered robbed items at Beroil-Polita union of Magura Sadar Upazila on Saturday noon.
The arrestees were identified as Jannat Hossain and Abdur Rahim, hailed from Rangamati district. Jafar Ahmed, a sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station, said police arrested the duo when they were fleeing the area after committing a robbery.
They are members of an organised robbery gang. Ornaments, a large amount of cash, a motorcycle, and some other items were recovered from their possession, he added.
Contacted, Sadar Police Station Officer-in Charge Jainal Abedin said the duo were shown arrest in a robbery.
Covid-19: Barishal doctor tests positive after death

A doctor of Barishal General Hospital tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday night after his death with virus infection symptoms.
The deceased was identified as Dr Md Emdadullah Khan, 58, of Bauphal upazila in Patuakhali. He was a senior consultant at the Dermatology department of the hospital.
Barishal Civil Surgeon Dr Monwar Hosain, said Dr Khan’s report showed him positive for Covid-19 when it came from Barishal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) testing lab.
Dr Khan passed away on Friday afternoon at the Corona Unit of SBMCH. He left behind his wife, also a physician, two sons and a daughter.
According to Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), 1,040 doctors, including 3,301 health workers, 901 nurses, and 1,360 technicians and others engaged in different activities at the hospitals were infected until June 18.
Over the past two weeks, the deaths of doctors from coronavirus have been reported almost every day in the country, taking the total tally to 43, said BMA President Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin.
However, according to various organisations, coronavirus has claimed the lives of about 50 doctors, which is around four percent of the nation’s total Covid-19 fatalities.
Thakurgaon physician dies of Corona in Dhaka

A physician of Cumilla Central Medical College died from coronavirus at the United Hospital in Dhaka on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Dr Mujibur Rahman Ripon, son of Khatibuddin of Kamarpur village of Haripur upazila in Thakurgaon.
Confirming the information, Haripur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Abdul Karim, said the deceased was buried early Sunday.
Earlier on June 3, Dr Ripon tested positive for coronavirus and was undergoing treatment in Cumilla but later was shifted to the hospital in Dhaka as his condition deteriorated.
Pediatrician Dr Ripon left his physician wife and two sons, the UNO added.

Bogura archaeologist dies with Corona symptoms

An additional director of Bogura Archaeology Department died with coronavirus symptoms while undergoing treatment at the isolation unit of Mohammad Ali Hospital in the district on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Mojibur Rahman, 58, of Kapasia in Gazipur.
Confirming the information, Dr Khairul Bashar Momin, resident medical officer of Bogura Mohammadi Ali Hospital, said Mojibur was admitted to the hospital with fever and breathing complications and was put in the isolation unit at 12:30pm on Saturday.
He passed away at 8pm, said Dr Momin adding that he had high blood pressure and asthma.
Sample was collected from Mojibur for coronavirus test, Dr Khairul said adding that the report is yet to come.
Archaeologist Mojibur was the custodian of Mahasthangar Museum before he was appointed as AD of Bogura Archaeological Department.
Bangladesh has so far reported 108,775 coronavirus cases and 1,425 deaths in the country.
Bangladeshi killed by Indians along Sylhet border

A Bangladeshi national was killed and another injured in firing by members of Indian Khasia community along Shatal border in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Babul Biswas, 34, son of Gopal Biswas of Shatal village while the injured is Indra Biswas, 22, son of Narendra Biswas of the village.
Lt Col Ahmed Yusuf Jamil, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh battalion-48, said members of the Indian Khasia community opened fire on some Bangladeshi youths when they were collecting firewood along the border, leaving Babul dead on the spot and Indra injured.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue, said Raziullah Khan, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station.
