Although the BNP has taken some punitive action against the dissidents of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), it has apparently failed to control them, as the post-deprived leaders and workers vowed to continue their movement demanding dissolution of the committee and formation of new one.
The dissidents have given the BNP 48-hour ultimatum to resolve the crisis prevailing since the formation of the committee of the JCD. The deadline expires today (Friday). But there is no visible initiative taken either by the BNP or the JCD leaders.
The dissident JCD men said that they would continue
their movement until a new committee was formed with dedicated, active and competent leaders.
They demanded removal of BNP’s Student Affairs Secretary Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Annie and former JCD President Sultan Salahuddin Tuku from supervising the JCD activities.
They have also demanded withdrawal of the order expelling the former JCD leaders immediately.
Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokon told The New Nation that they were disappointed at the formation of the JCD committee without dedicated, skilled, competent and active men. No committee with lethargy leaders can survive.
“We demand dissolution of the committee and formation of fresh one. But the high-ups of BNP are yet to meet our demand. It seems that they want to save the existing committee men, but it will not be possible as the dedicated, skilled, competent and active leaders are not on the committee,” Khokon said.
“Our demand is logical. We want to save the JCD and to continue anti-government movement. So, nothing can stop our movement. Our 48-hour ultimatum will end Friday. BNP Chairperson has a programme on Saturday. So, we will resume our movement from Sunday again,” he added.
On October 14, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia approved a 201-member ‘partial’ committee of the party’s associate student organisation with Rajib Ahsan as President and Akramul Hassan General Secretary.
Unhappy with the formation of its new committee, the rebel Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leaders on October 18 locked the student body’s central office inside BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
They have been demonstrating in front of the Nayapaltan office since October 18 demanding that the new body of BNP’s student organisation be dissolved calling it an ‘incompetent and pocket committee’.
