The dissident leaders and workers of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the BNP, have resumed their protest programme against the newly formed committee of the organisation, and in demand of withdrawal of the expulsion order against some of them.
The dissident JCD men on Monday noon gathered in front of the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in
the city and staged demonstration in favour their demands. They also chanted slogans against BNP’s student affairs secretary Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Annie and former JCD president Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, and demanded removal of the two leaders from their monitoring duty of the JCD. They alleged that the ‘incompetent and pocket committee’ of the JCD was formed by the influence of the two leaders.
The post-deprived JCD men at a brief rally in front of the party office said that they would continue their movement until their demands are met. Post-deprived JCD leaders Tarikul Islam Tito, Tarun De and Rafiqul Islam Rafique addressed the rally, among others.
During the demonstration, the leaders of the current committee, including its president and general secretary, were staying inside the office. But no untoward incident occurred.
Earlier on Sunday, five crude bombs were exploded near the Nayapaltan office during the scheduled time of the rebels’ demonstration. The JCD men did not stage demonstration on that day, as the BNP senior leaders told the JCD rebels that they would try to settle the matter.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on October 14 approved the 201-member partial committee of the JCD with Rajib Ahsan as president and Akramul Hasan general secretary. A group of dissident JCD leaders and activists have been opposing the committee as they think it is an ‘incompetent and pocket committee’ influenced by some BNP leaders.
