UNB, Dhaka :
The High Court on Sunday asked the Election Commission to dispose of the petition seeking the recount of votes in the Rangpur City Corporation polls within 30 days.
A HC bench of Justice M Moazzam Husain and Justice Md Shohrowardi passed the order. Earlier on January 4, the court set on Sunday for delivering its order after hearing the writ

petition filed by BNP’s mayoral candidate Kawser Zaman Babla. In the petition filed on January 3, Babla sought the HC directives upon the EC to dispose of his petition.
On December 21, Babla was defeated by Jatiya Party candidate Mostafizur Rahman in the Rangpur City Corporation polls. Later on December 27, the BNP candidate filed a petition before the EC seeking recount of votes. The writ was filed challenging the inaction of EC regarding the dispose of the plea.
Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission Secretary, Rangpur Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer of the polls were made defendant in the writ petition.
