Staff Reporter :
The High Court on Thursday ordered the concerned bodies to preserve and display the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in all courtrooms across the country within two months.
The HC Bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader

passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed on August 21 by Supreme Court lawyer Subir Nandi in this regard.
The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why the inaction of the respondents in displaying and preserving the portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the courtrooms across the country should not be declared without lawful authority.
Secretaries of the ministries of Law, Housing and Finance, Supreme Court registrar general and registrar of the High Court Division have to comply with the rule.
In the hearing, the petitioner lawyer said, “Article 4(A) of the Constitution said, ‘The Portrait of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman shall be preserved and displayed in all the offices of the President, the Prime Minister, the Speaker and the Chief Justice and in head and branch offices of all government, semi-government offices, autonomous bodies, statutory public authorities, government and non-government educational institutions, embassies and missions of Bangladesh abroad.”
Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar agreed with the lawyer saying that there was a constitutional obligation to display and preserve the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in all offices.
