Speakers at a discussion meeting on ‘life and research works of renowned bard singer Shah Abdul Karim” here on Saturday underlined the need for greater unity of people of all walks of life irrespective of cast, creed and religion and building up a cultural movement to root out terrorism and militancy from the country.
“All of us irrespective of party affiliation or groups should come forward unitedly by raising above our self-interest for building up social and cultural movement in line with the spirit of liberation war to resist the flow of alien culture and to protect our children from being spoiled or involved in militancy”, they said. Renowned bard singer and researcher Shah Abdul Karim’s centenary birth anniversary celebration Parishad Netrakona district unit organised the meeting at local public hall here today to mark the bard singer’s centenary birth anniversary. Immortal Ekushey February and Bangla academy literary award recipient professor Jotin Sarker and renowned student leader of mass upsurge against autocratic Ershad regime in 1990 and Awami League leader Shafi Ahmed addressed the meeting as chief guest and special guest respectively.
Chaired by prominent cultural personality Golam Kaddus, the meeting was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of central Khelagor Asor Abul Farah Polash, Associate Professor of Netrakona Government College Poet Soruj Mustafa, principal of Rajur Bazer Collegiate School Golam Mustafa and cultural personality Rafiqul Islam Apel. The meeting was followed by a musical soiree based on bard and folk-songs. Popular bard and folk singers presented popular songs enthralling the audience.
