Plan International Bangladesh organised a learning sharing event on “Advancing Adolescent for Healthy Nation: Learning Sharing” at Begum Rokeya Auditorium, RDRS in Rangpur on Thursday.
The objective of the event was to expand the learning which was gathered during the implementation of Advancing Adolescent Health (A2H) project supported by USAIDin Rangpur district.
Mr. Abdullah Sazzad, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) of Rangpur Division was present as chief guestinthe event.
 Dr. Sanjib Ahmed, Clinical Service Technical Specialist, USAID/Bangladesh and AOR-A2H was present as special guest while Dr. Amal Chandra Saha, Divisional Director-Healthpresided over the event. Dr Zakirul Islam, Civil Surgeon and Dr. Shaikh Md. Saidul Islam, Deputy Director-Family Planning were present as guest speakers.The program started with welcome speech by Sumi Sarker, an adolescent leader. Rehan Uddin Ahmed Raju, Project Director of A2H presentedthe achievements of this project during past three years. Adolescents, parents, community leaders, service providers from different upazila and union under Rangpur shared their experiences in the event. USAID-Advancing Adolescent Health (A2H) Project has been implemented across Rangpur district since January 2016 in collaboration with Health and Family Planning Department of Rangpur.
 During this period, a total of 307,914 adolescent girls and boys benefited from this project and received life skill training. 50,300 adolescents received sexual and reproductive health services from Union Health and Family Welfare Center (UH&FWC) and Community Clinic (CC). 3,632 married adolescent and newlywed couples were educated on family planning, contraception, birth spacing and birth registration. 4830 religious leaders,especially Imam,were orientated onadolescent’s sexualand reproductive health. 53,702 parents and community leaders were also orientated and engaged to promote sexual reproductive health. In total,250 adolescent girls from marginalized family were engaged with economic empowerment activities through providing different training. Out of them, 45 girls completed training on outsourcingand received computer, printer, camera and modem to start their business where as 60 girls received training on sewing machine. Some of them already got job in garment factory.

By now, 100 girls received entrepreneurship development trainingwhile others received training on tailoring and block boutique printing. Around 300 participants including adolescent girls and boys, parents, service providers participated the event from eight Upazilas under Rangpur district. Government officials, journalists, NGO representatives were also present in the event. The USAID – Advancing Adolescent Health (A2H) project is one of the many assistance projects supported by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Since 1971, the American people through USAID have provided more than $5.5 billion in programs that support Bangladesh’s health and education, democratic institutions, social sector and economic growth, and food security and disaster management.
