Speakers at a meeting on disclosure of wealth statements for local government body public representatives, demanded disclosure of wealth statements for lawmakers and high government and non-government officials.
Rights Jashore, a human rights organization, organized the meeting at a community centre in Jashore town on Monday.
Hussain Shaukat, deputy director, local government department, Jashore was the chief guest in the meeting.
Chaired by Dr Yeakub Ali, president, Rights Jashore, the meeting funded by The Asia Foundation, was addressed among other by Shahidul Islam Milon, president, Jashore district unit of Awami League, Mahfuz Iqbal, assistant director, anti corruption commission, Jashore, SM Tauhidur Rahman, secretary, Jashore Press Club, Achinur Reza, programme officer, The Asia Foundation, Binoy Krishna Mallick, executive director, Rights Jashore, and UP chairman Md Alauddin, Bazlur Rahman, Mafiz Uddin, Sabdul Hossain Khan and Modasser Ali.
Five union council chairmen disclosed their wealth statements in the meeting.
The UP chairmen told that they are given only Tk10,000 as their monthly salary which is very poor to run their families.
They also said that they are running their respective union councils with transparency.
Shahidul Islam Milon, president, Jashore district unit of Awami League came up with call about disclosures of wealth statements for lawmakers and high officials in government and non-government offices.
