Discipline in aid distribution at refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar has been restored after Bangladesh Army engaged in aid operation.
A chaotic situation in relief distribution was prevailing before army men were entrusted to the task. The district administration found it hard to carry out relief work.
There was no chaos in relief distribution, reports our correspondent while visiting the refugee camps in Ukhia and Teknaf on Tuesday
Army personnel have brought discipline in relief distribution, traffic movement on Ukhia-Teknaf road and handling of the relief-laden vehicles.
Earlier, individuals, who brought relief in vehicles, distributed them at their will, thus creating a chaotic situation and hampering traffic and movement of people as well.
Now relief-laden trucks are stopped at the
control stations at Kutpalong and Ukhia College Field. Army men and district administration officials are receiving relief materials.
Later, the relief materials are being sent to 12 specific points, seven at Ukhia and five at Teknaf, for distribution among the Rohingya refugees.
Army camp in-charge Major Rashed Akter said they have developed facilities for carrying materials to build sheds for Rohingyas and accommodation for Army men to be engaged with the work in the camp areas.
“After completion of the work, we will start building sheds in cooperation with the administration,” he added.
Major Mahbub, who is supervising the registration process, said registration work is going on at two camps with 16 computers. “We are trying to ensure registration of 1,000 Rohingyas a day.”
