Police have arrested Habil Uddin, 42, in connection with the pregnancy of a disabled raped woman in Melandha upazila under the Jamalpur district. Maleha Begum, the mother of the victim, filed the case on the night of April 27.
Habil, son of Rahim Uddin of West Jhaugara village allegedly raped his neighbor a disabled woman more than once. As a result, the disabled became 4/5 months pregnant.
Meanwhile, when the physical condition of the pregnant woman deteriorated, she was admitted to Jamalpur Hospital. Human rights activists and journalists became active after the matter became known.
SI Abul Kashem, head of the arrest operation, said accused Habil was arrested after the rape accused was identified. The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Jamalpur Hospital. Officer-in-charge Mainul Islam said a case was filed on Tuesday night. The accused has been handed over to the court.
