Staff Reporter :
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) warned of disaster if Covid-19 transmission can not be controlled within a week.
DGHS data showed that coronavirus has spread to all the districts of the country.
It said that both the infection rate and the number of deaths are on the rise.
In weekly bulletin on Sunday, DGHS spokesperson Dr. Robed Amin said, “The existing delta variant is causing deaths to the every category of patients as well as elderly and the young people.”
“If the number of patients continues to rise at this rate, no beds at hospitals will remain empty after seven to ten days,” he said.
In the 24 hours to Sunday morning 230 covid patients died across the country.
Of them, 70 people died in Dhaka division, 51 in Khulna, 20 in Chattogram, and 13 in Rajshahi.
According to the data, the infection rate was 49.87pc in Dhaka, 18.29pc in Chattogram and 11.4pc in Khulna.
Dr. Robed Amin said that patients’ pressure is increasing in Dhaka, Chattogram and Khulna.
The infection rate was very high last month. In June, a total of 112,718 cases were reported. About 100,000 people were infected in the first 10 days of July, he added.
The spokesman said, even in June, there were found many empty beds across the country, including some in ICUs.
Expressing frustration he said that many people were leaving their homes without any valid reason or emergency amid a nationwide lockdown.
“A disaster may occurr if the situation cannot be controlled by the next week. The day is not too far when the single-day infection will reach 15,000,” Dr. Robed Amin said.
He urged to the government to take more punitive actions against those who violate the restrictions.
