Dipon murder case, recording of depositions complete

A Dhaka court yesterday completed recording the depositions of the witnesses in the publisher Faisal Arefin Dipon murder case.
On Wednesday, the defence lawyers completed cross-examining Investigation Officer of the case and Detective Branch (DB) Assistant Commissioner Fazlur Rahman in the Anti-Terror Tribunal of Dhaka. Judge of the tribunal Mojibur Rahman conducted the proceedings.
Later, the judge fixed January 4 for the accused people to support themselves under section 342 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
Of the 26 witnesses of the case, 23 testified in the case. The court started recording the depositions of the witnesses on December 1, last year.
The eight accused persons are Moinul Hasan Shamim, Md Abdus Sabur, Khairul Islam, Md Abu Siddique Sohel, Md Mozammel Hossain alias Saimon, Sheikh Abdullah, sacked Army Major Ziaul Haque and Akram Hossain alias Habib.
Other 11 accused persons were acquitted as they were not found guilty in the investigation.
Of the eight, six had been arrested on different occasions and they gave confessional statements in different court admitting their involvement in the murder. Of the accused, the two fugitives are Syed Ziaul Haque and Akram Hossainb alias Hasib.
Jagriti Prokashoni publisher Dipon was hacked to death in his office at Aziz Super Market on November 31, 2016. His wife Dr Rajia Rahman filed the case on the same day with Shahbagh Police Station of the city.
