Five accused killers, including Awami League leader Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the case of sensational seven-murder after abduction in Narayanganj, are still at large though eight days have already passed since the heinous crime was committed.
The police also could not trace four other accused ruling party leaders, including general secretary of Siddhirganj unit AL Hazi Md Yasin though Selina Islam Beauty, wife of Narayanganj City Corpporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam, gave their names in the list of suspects during filing murder case after kidnapping of her husband.
There is widespread speculation that the accused persons may have left the country taking the advantage of relax mood of law enforcing agencies. Especially, the dilly-delay response of local administration into the crime has made an escape-route for the criminals. Admitting the fact, state minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday said, “Although Nur Hossain was under the surveillance of the law enforcers he, however, managed to escape arrest.” “The law enforcement agencies are conducting drive to nab the fugitives. We will not spare anybody even the godfather. Already we have got a clue which will help trace the criminals very soon,” he hoped.
But questions have been raised how the prime accused Nur Hossain along with other suspects could flee away dodging the police surveillance and why the police took seven days to conduct a raid at Nur Hossain’s house?
Questions also raised why the police had played a hide-and-seek game in disclosing the names of all arrested persons those were taken from Nur Hossain’s residence. Why the police already freed five persons those were nabbed during the raid?
In this backdrop, the incident of seven-murder has been handed over to Detective Branch [DB] of Police for extensive investigation. “The cases filed with Fatullah Police Station relating to the seven killings after abduction, including the case of NCC councilor Nazrul Islam, have been transferred to the DB on Sunday afternoon,” Dr Khandakar Mohid Uddin, SP of Narayanganj, told The New Nation.
He said, “The Narayanganj seven-murder is a pre-planned incident. The police are conducting investigation into the incident also in a planned way. We want to reach our desired goal by collecting all relevant information.” “We have got some vital information about seven-murder from the two arrested persons those were nabbed along with the cellular phone of slain lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker. Besides, we are also trying to track down another cellular phone from which unidentified persons had threatened Nazrul’s family members,” the SP said. Nazrul along with the six person was kidnapped in broad daylight on April 27 from Adalatpara area in Narayanganj. Their bodies were recovered from the Sitalakkhya river after four days of the abduction.
Meanwhile, the members of the law enforcing agencies seized a reddish-black colour car from the compound of JMS Glass Industries Ltd at Shimrail of Siddhirganj in Narayanganj on Sunday, which is owned by an in-law of ruling Awami League lawmaker Shamim Osman. Acting on a tip-off, a special team comprising members of different law enforcement agencies, including police, DB, SB and RAB, conducted the raid in the glass factory. Police suspect that the vehicle was used in the abduction and killing of city panel mayor Nazrul Islam and six others.
The doors, windows and all the four wheels of the car were locked. Later, the police called a wrecker to toe the car to the Fatullah police station as evidence in the investigation of the sensational killing. Abdul Awal, general manager of the factory, said younger brother of Nur Hossain, Nuruzzaman alias Joj Mia, who is one of accused persons in the killing, is the owner of the car [Dhaka Metro-Ga 29-8862]. “The car has been parked there since Friday. They used to park the car in the factory compound often,” he said.
Shamsuddin Ahmed, an uncle-in-law of Shamim Osman, is the managing director and one of the eight owners of the factory while two other co-owners are also maternal-uncle-in -laws of the same lawmaker, according to glass factory officials.
