The Standing Committee on Defense of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) in its 9th meeting held at the Sangsad Bhaban suggested immediate promulgation of a Meteorological Act and greater allocation for the sector in the upcoming budget.
The recommendations included establishment of automatic weather station, rapid digitization and restructuring of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
It also suggested establishing digital weather towers in the territorial waters of Bangladesh and a Doppler radar for a clear and real-time knowledge of the weather there.
The meeting also reviewed the progress in the implementation of recommendations passed in the 8th meeting of the committee and was informed of the major developments in the sector.
Presided over by the chairman of the committee, Mohammad Subed Ali Bhuiyan, the meeting was attended by its members: Mohammad Faruk Khan, Md Mahbubur Rahman and Hosne Ara Begum.
