More CCTV cameras to be installed in key points

The government is going to increase digital security system in the capital to identify the criminals and to ensure the all-out security to the city residents. The government has already installed Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in different parts of the city and the Dhaka University.
The Home Ministry has a plan to set up additional 700 CCTV cameras in Ghulshan Zone alone to strengthen security system.
On Thursday, 100 Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras were installed in Gulshan, Baridhara and Niketan.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed inaugurated the project ‘Supervision of CCTV Camera” in a city hotel. Law and Order Co-ordination Committee of Gulshan organised the function.
Tofail Ahmed said, the government wants to ensure the safety and security of the city residents so that they can move easily and freely. He hoped that the installed cameras would help reduce the criminal activities and to pick up the culprits immediately.
State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Anisul Huq, Inspector General of Police A K M Shahidul Haque, Director General of Rapid Action Battalion Benazir Ahmed and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah were present the function, among others.
Annisul Huq said, “The whole of Dhaka North will be brought under CCTV surveillance in a bid to reduce criminal activities.
A K M Shahidul Haque said, the CCTV cameras would help create good relations between the police and the people. He said that additional 700 CCTV cameras would be set up in Ghulshan Zone to strengthen law and order situation.
“The cameras will help us pick up criminals, locate false numbers of vehicle, and control traffic,” Shahidul Haque said.
