Dhaka University (DU) Music Department in association with Bengal Foundation set up a digital Music Archive yesterday in the department.
Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique formally inaugurated the archive as the chief guest.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nasreen Ahmad, Director General of Bengal Foundation Luva Nahid Chowdhury and Chairperson of the Department of Music Shahnaz Nasreen Ela spoke on the occasion.
DU VC Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique in his speech emphasized the need for preserving songs of the past, including our glorious liberation war of 1971.
He recalled the great role and influence of music among the freedom fighters during the war of independence. He said music has no boundary and it can touch the hearts of millions of people to inspire them to work together for the nation’s building.
He urged all to listen and practice music to uphold the country’s rich cultural heritage.
The Vice-chancellor appreciated the Bengal Foundation for its assistance and hoped that this sort of collaboration would continue in future.
