Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said digital Bangladesh is not rhetoric, rather it is a reality now. “Most of the common people, including students, teachers and officials are getting services of digital Bangladesh,” he said this on Tuesday while speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of 100 computer lab installation programme in Dhaka’s 100 schools.Held at the auditorium of Residential Model College, the function was presided over by Department of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Director General Prof. Fahima Khatun. The function was also addressed by Education Secretary Dr. Mohammad Sadiq, Korean Ambassador Lee Yun-young, Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOIC) Resident Representative Kim Bok-Hee and Department of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Director Prof. Dr Sirajul Haq.
Nurul Islam Nahid said many could not believe it when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina first declared her resolve to develop a ‘digital Bangladesh.’ But only in a few years, digital services reached the doorsteps of the people, he said, adding that currently 11 crore people are using mobile phones and 4.5 crore people are using internet.
The minister said information technology (IT) has expanded in the education sector as multimedia classrooms have been introduced in 20500 schools, colleges and madrasas.
He thanked the Korean government for cooperation in the development of education sector in Bangladesh.
The education minister called for taking a big step in continuation of the pilot project to set up 100 IT lands with line of 1700 computers at 100 schools.
Financed by the government of Bangladesh and KOIC, IT labs were installed at 90 schools in Dhaka city, 5 schools in Savar and 5 schools in Dhamrai under the project ‘Establishment of IT Labs in Selected Secondary Level Institutions in Dhaka.’
The relevant teachers are given training under the project.
