Chattogram Burerau :
The differences between the urban and rural areas of Chattogram district eliminated following the cent percent power supply in 15 upazilas of the district. As a result the residents of these upazilas are enjoying free and developed livelihood by the residents of rural areas. The most surprise of this power supply project of this region is to supply uninterrupted power supply to scattered island areas of Sandwip from mainland of the port city.
According to information of Power Development Board, Chattogram zone, power generation from 23 units of 18 power plants of Chattogram region .is 1,391 Megawatt whereas the total demand of power in greater Chattogram is 1600MWs. As a result after meeting the demands of this region, the excess generation from this region is transferring to national grid.
PDB sources said there is no loadshedding in Chattogram district including the port city . Besides, with the view of supplying cent percent power in Chattogram Division by 2021, mega project will be undertaken immediately. Sources said before one decade, power generation was 300 MWs from 3 power plants against the total demands of 650 MWs. Despite half generations out of total demands from 3 plants, the residents of Chattogram had to enjoy nominal advantage of power supply and had to depend on power from national grid. During the earlier regime , total generations from all power plants across the country was 3,268 MWs which was comparatively very poor according to demands.
On that period, load shedding was the regular phenomenon in the country. To mitigate the power crisis in greater Chattogram , Sheikh Hasina govt has installed a number plants like Rental power plants, Peaking Power plants in Chattogram.
As a result the prevailing load shedding resolved quickly and the excess generation beyond demands are being transferred to national grild. While contacted Chief Engineer of PDB, Chattogram Region Engr. Prabir Kumar Sen said present peoples friendly govt under dynamic leadership of Sheikh Hasina, a number of mega power project undertaken aimed at generating 30,000 megawatts by 2013.
Meanwhile, two coal fired of 650 megawatts each at Matarbari and Moheshkali under Cox’s Bazar district are undergoing and planning of more two mega projects of 20,000 MW capacity in Moheskhali are under process.
Besides, a mega coal turbine power plant having capacity of 1320 MWs in Bashkhali upazila under private sector is progressing fast.
Beside these mega projects, out of Boalkhali, Anowara, Karnaphuli and Patiya under construction project, three plants now in door step of generation with capacity of 2000 Megawatts. On the other hand, the works of LNG turbine 600 MW plant at Raozan and the 150 MW capacity PP at Mirsarai Economic zone are undergoing funded by PDB & REB . Engr Prabir Sen also apprised that installation of 200 MW capacity Solar Power Plants at Raozan, Fatikchari, Kaptai Rangunia are under process using renewable engery under public sector.
