Dietary diversification to prevent malnutrition of children stressed

Speakers at a press conference said people should change their food habit alongside acquiring knowledge on health issues for combat malnutrition of children. It is an urgent to promote dietary diversification to improve nutritional status of children, they told a press conference held recently at the District Nursing Institute, Joypurhat marking the National Nutrition Week. Acting Civil Sergeant of Joypurhat Dr Md Rashed Mobarrak Jewel, doctors and officials addressed the press conference while other professionals including journalists, among others, were present. Dr Rashed laid emphasis on having healthy diets for ensuring optimum mental and physical growth of children. He urged the people to change their food habit to keep their children healthy.
Despite a considerable progress in different key indicators of health, nearly half of the under-five children are suffering from malnutrition in the country, other speakers said, adding, lack of awareness and inadequate knowledge about health are causes malnutrition among the children.
