In the 108th event of the popular Jabbarer Boli Khela(wrestling competition) of Chittagong , Didar Boli of Ukhia , Cox’s Bazar clinches champion trophy by defeating another giant Shamsu Boli .
The traditional Boli Khela of Chittagong held at about 4 pm on Tuesday at Laldighi Maidan where at least 100 wrestlers participated.
City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin formally inaugurated the wrestling amid presence of police commissioner of CMP M .Iqbal Bahar as inaugurator.
After end of the wrestling competition, the champion Didar Boli declared his retirement from wrestling from yesterday, committee sources said.
Meanwhile the Boishaki Mela centring the Jabbarer Boli Khela also began in the Laldighi area covering the space about 2 kilometers around Laldighi square. The Mela will continue upto Thursday next. A mela committee sources said the first competition of wrestling of Abdul Jabbar begins in 1909 during British regime. It became a traditional culture of Chittagong in more than hundred years . Organiser of the mela committee Councilor Jaharlal Hazari told that more than hundred wrestlers across the country registered their name for competing the wrestling.
While visiting the mela it was witnessed that different types of household products like pottery, cane, earthen , handmade wooden furniture and cane & bamboo products , toy for children, sweat items, food products were exhibited in the fair brought from different parts of the country for sale. Seasonal fruits also seen in the vendors stalls.
