The overall diarrhea situation in Gaibandha Municipality and its adjoining areas is improving gradually.
Civil surgeon (CS) office sources said diarrhea first appeared among the inmates of two students’ messes at Thanapara and Khankasharif areas of Gaibandha Municipality in the early hours of Thursday.
From then, the disease broke out at Paschimpara, Collegepara, Palashpara, Masterpara and Baniarjan areas of the district town quickly and patients rushed to the hospital for treatment.
At one stage the arrival of the diarrhea affected patients in the hospital continued to rise and the number of diarrhea patients stood over 100 which is five times more than the capacity of the hospital.
The doctors and the nurses faced serious problems to provide treatment to the diarrhea patients. The stock of cholera saline came down and the physicians worried about the proper treatment for the admitted patients.
Later, the crisis of cholera saline was solved as different organizations including Nahid Foundation, Gaibandha Municipality, BRAC, Zilla Parishad, and Patients Welfare Association of Social Services Department donated cholera saline to the authority of the hospital.
Till yesterday morning a total of 435 patients including women and children admitted in the hospital and now 58 patients are under treatments in the hospital till filing of this report at 3 pm. Earlier 377 patients were released from the hospital last three days after recovery, said residence medical officer SIM Shahinoor Islam Mondal.
