Bogra Correspondent :
A total of 30 diarrhoea patients have been admitted to the hospitals in Sariakandi and Dhunut upazilas including the upazila health complexes in the last three days. The health officials said it is their normal matter to get treatment for diarrhoea and water boron- diseases.
Diarrhoea patients Abdul Alim, 40, Waresh Ali, 35, Momena Bgum, 40, Abu Raihan, 10, Abdur Rashid, 19 of Sariakandi and Dhunut upazila said they are not getting better treatment in the absence of drugs. Meanwhile, shortage of medicines affects treatment at the hospitals.
Of the 100 beds of the hospitals, only 10 are meant for the diarrhoea patients, and so, the authorities are struggling to cope with the worsening diarrhoea situation.
The influx of patients gives a picture different from the one that usually happens during the onset of monsoon, said Dr Samir Hossain Mishu, resident medical officer of Mohammad Ali hospital in Bogra.
Doctors suspect that drinking of contaminated water and taking of chemical-mixed seasonal fruits along with the rise in temperature may be the reason behind the sudden outbreak of the disease.
Civil Surgeon of Bogra Dr Ardhendu Deb said, “Waterborne diseases have not broken out in an epidemic form yet. However, our medical team is ready to deal with any emergency.”
“Two additional medical teams including the two upazila health complexes, each consisting four members are working to get medical support to the flood hit patients in Bogra.
