“Diamond World Int’l Music Fest” begins at JnU

The two-daylong international music festival began in the central auditorium of Jagannath University (JnU) with the local and foreign singers on Tuesday.
The Department of Music of JnU organised the festival sponsored by Diamond World Ltd for the first time on the university campus.
The programme began with the song “Aanondo Dhonee Jagao Gagone” performed bt the guests, the teachers and the students of the university. The Chief Guest of the programme Asaduzzaman Noor, Minister of Cultural Affairs, inaugurated the festival at 10am by enkindling ‘mongol prodip’. JnU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mijanur Rahman, Treasurer Professor Selim Bhuiyan and Managing Director of the Diamond World Ltd. Dilip Kumar Agarwal were present as special guests on the occasion.
Asaduzzaman Noor said, “Dark power lives in the dark mind. If human mind is enlightened, there will prevail happiness in the society. In this respect, cultural expansion of activities will help enlighten human mind.”
Secretary Member of the festival and Assistant Professor Mahmudul Hasan delivered a welcome speech. Pundit Amaresh Roy Chowdhury was awarded honorary crest in the programme.
Music Department Chairperson and Convener of the festival Anima Roy presided over the function.
In the opening day of the festival, Shaheen Samad, Sadi Mohammad, Shama Rahman, Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Samina Chowdhury, Anima Roy and Shafi Mandal charmed the audience with their performances. In addition to, a handful of foreign artists from China, India and Indonesia took part in the festival.
The students of the Department of Music of Dhaka University enthralled the audience also. The programme ends today.
