BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday said, Dialogue is a must for holding fair and inclusive national polls.
“We are repeatedly saying that there is no alternative to start dialogue with opposition political parties to find solution for a free, fair and acceptable national election,” Mirza Fakhrul said while addressing a discussion programme arranged at Segunbagicha Swadhinata Hall. Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) organized it.
He said that the government refused to give permission to the Jatiya Oikya Front to hold a grand rally in Sylhet citing unrest possibility. But the Chormonai Pir has organized a rally, JAPA organized rally with government’s money. There is no fear of sabotage.
He asked the government to shun such a path of disparity and injustice. Mirza Fakhrul also pointed out about difference within the Election Commission.
“The division within the commission is a national crisis. One election commissioner has announced that his proposals for a fair election are being disregarded, others are saying his opinions are unconstitutional,” he said.
“Twice so far, Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder walked out of the commission’s meeting with a note of dissent saying his opinions had been disregarded,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
The BNP leader said, “This commission will not be able to hold a free, fair and acceptable election. They will just hand over power to Awami League for another term.”
“The people will give a befitting reply to the vested quarters,” he said.
JAGPA Vice-President Tasmia Pradhan presided over the programme.
BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan, Chairperson’s Advisor Aman Ullah Aman, NPP Chairman Dr. Fariduzzaman Farhad, JAGPA General Secretary Khandaker Lutfar Rahman, and Engineer Rashed Prodhan, son of JAGPA founder late Shafiul Alam Pradhan, spoke on the occasion.
