Indian cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar has finally spoken about the recent MS Dhoni saga.
Dhoni was dropped from the Indian T20 International side for the West Indies and Australia series. But according to Gavaskar, Indian team management wants to establish young Rishab Pant in an explosive finisher as well as an effective wicket-keeper keeping the future in mind. And it simply means that Dhoni won’t be playing for India in the World T20 2020.
When asked whether the decision to not pick MS Dhoni for T20Is was right, Gavaskar told CricTracker, “Dhoni knows that he will not be a part of the World T20 in 2020, so he’s thought about the overall good of Indian cricket and given Rishabh Pant a chance to gather more experience in T20Is. Pant has an exceptional T20 record in the IPL. So that’s why he’s made himself unavailable.”
According to Gavaskar, Dhoni should involve his body into some domestic matches. What will happen because of this is his body will be match fit. Dhoni is already ageing and his agility and muscle power is declining with age. So, it will be wise for him to feature for his stateside Jharkhand in the domestic tournaments or even first-class matches.
