Awami League’s (AL) mayor candidate in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh unveiled a 5-point election manifesto promising to work for building a developed and well-governed Dhaka city.
He has also designed future Dhaka as a tourist hotspot in his manifesto.
Taposh announced the election manifesto at the Awami League’s central office on the Bangabandhu Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.
His 5-point manifesto included traditional Dhaka, beautiful Dhaka, vibrant Dhaka, well-governed Dhaka and developed Dhaka.
He said, Dhaka needs to be revived.
As part of a long-term plan in this regard, the central jail area will be redesigned by way of erecting plantations and amusement parks and theatres, he said while reading out his manifesto.
The AL candidate said, “I will build museum and art gallery with coordinated efforts and will preserve and restore the traditional characteristics of Old Dhaka through a master plan.”
Areas surrounding Buriganga and Shitalakhya rivers will also be revamped, he added.
Taposh said, he will take steps for development of slums in the city and providing housing facilities for the cleaners.
Roads will be divided into separate lanes, for high-speed vehicles, for medium-speed vehicles and part will be dedicated for the pedestrians.
The mayor candidate said also, they will be very vigilant to carry out daily activities to eradicate mosquitoes.
He also highlighted plans for construction of roads that can be easily accessible to fire engines adding they will create their own firefighting team.
Elections to both the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will be held on February 1.
