UNB, Habiganj :
Local people blocked Dhaka-Sylhet highway for an hour on Thursday following the death of a minor girl in a road accident at Digambar Bazar in Bahubal upazila.
Nilima Begum, 8, daughter of Khoaj Ali of Digambar village in the
upazila and a class II student of Digambar Kalibari Government Primary School, was killed as a Dhaka-bound speeding bus hit her while she was crossing the road at noon, leaving her dead on the spot, said police quoting locals.
Being outraged by the incident, local people put up barricades on the highway, disrupting vehicular movement for an hour and causing sufferings to people travelling ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Later, the protestors withdrew the blockade as they were assured by the local administration of bringing the bus driver responsible for the accident to justice.
However, the killer bus could not be detected yet, said the assistant police superintendent adding that highway police were deployed to find it out.
