Bangladesh has reiterated its support for an independent and sovereign Palestine state and the legitimate movement for self-rule of the Palestinian people.
Bangladesh Ambassador and Permanent Representative to United Nations (UN) Masud Bin Momen expressed the support at a daylong open discussion at UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on the Palestine and Middle East situation , said a message received here on Tuesday.
The ambassador urged UN Security Council to take dynamic, constructive and visible steps in view of its previous resolution on two-state based solution.
He called upon the Security Council and other global bodies to play more active roles to stop Israel’s illegal occupation and aggression, indiscriminate killings, arrests and repressions on the land of Palestine.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina clearly mentions Bangladesh’s policy stance on the Palestine issue in her speech at UNGA every year.
Representative from 52 countries and regional agencies took part in the open discussion.
At the beginning of the meeting, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon spoke about his recent tours of Middle East and North Africa and his meetings with top leaders on the Palestine issue.
Representatives from different countries welcomed the initiative of French government to resume Middle East peace talks with the participation of Palestine and Israeli authorities.
