Beximco Dhaka reached the 2nd Qualifier phase edging past Fortune Barishal by nine runs in their Eliminator match of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Monday.
Sent into bat first, Baximco Dhaka made a fighting total of 150 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then restricted Fortune Barishal to 141 for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs.
Dhaka lost their early three wickets for 22 runs.
Then Mushfiqur Rahim and Yasir Ali repaired the damage contributing together 50 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Mushfiqur Rahim was caught & bowled by Kamrul Islam Rabbi when Dhaka’s total was 72 for the loss of four wickets.
After Mushfiqur’s departure, Yasir Ali and Akbar Ali added together 36 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Akbar Ali (21) was caught by Towhid Hridoy off Mehidy Hasan Miraz when Dhaka’s score was 108 for the loss of five wickets.
After Akbar Ali’s departure, Yasir Ali and Muktar Ali added together 36 runs in the six-wicket stand before Yasir Ali was trapped leg before wicket by Kamrul Islam Rabbi when Dhaka’s total was 143 for the loss of six wickets.
Yasir Ali hit his team’s highest of 54 runs. His 43-ball innings was studded with two sixes and three fours. He was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding batting performance.
Mushfiqur Rahim played a captain’s knock of 43. He cracked four fours and a sixer in his 30-ball knock.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Kamrul Islam Rabbi bagged two wickets each instead of 23 and 40 runs respectively.
Taskin Ahmed and Sohrawordi Shuvo took one wicket each conceding 21 and 32 runs respectively.
Barishal had a shaky start as they lost two wickets for 27 runs.
Opener Tamim Iqbal and second-down Afif Hossain put on together 32 runs in the third wicket stand before Tamim Iqbal (22) was caught by Akbar Ali off Muktar Ali when Barishal’s total was 59 for the loss of three wickets.
After Tamim Iqbal’s departure, Afif Hossain and Towhid Hridoy put on together 37 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Hridoy (12) was cleanly bowled out by Al-Amin Hossain when Barishal’s score was 96 for the loss of four wickets.
After Hridoy’s departure, Afif Hossain could stay at the crease for a short period as he was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Shafiqul Islam when Barishal’s total was 96 for the loss of five wickets.
After Afif’s departure, Barishal batsmen failed to build any notable partnership.
Afif Hossain hit a superb 55. His 35-ball knock was laced with four sixes and three fours.
Muktar Ali and Shafiqul Islam grabbed three wickets each at the cost of 18 and 39 runs respectively.
Al-Amin Hossain bagged two wickets instead of 22 runs, while Robiul Islam got one wicket for 15 runs.
