All bus services on the Rajshahi-Dhaka route have been suspended for indefinite period to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Rajshahi Transport Owners Association took the decision yesterday afternoon, our Rajshahi Staff Correspondent reports quoting Motiul Haque, General Secretary of the Association.
Rajshahi Motor Sramik Union has announced closure of long-haul bus plying from the district to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.
The association chief Mahatab Hossain Chowdhury disclosed it after an emergency meeting at city’s Shiroil bus terminal on Thursday afternoon. He said, “We’ve decided to close long-route bus services closed to prevent coronavirus. The inter-district buses will also be kept out of service if necessary.”
The transport workers’ leader said, ‘sorry’ for the temporary disruption. However, buses from Dhaka to other northern districts and northern districts to Dhaka will ply on the streets.
Earlier on Thursday, the country experienced four more cases of COVID-19, raising the country’s tally to 18. Among the affected people, a 70-year-old man died on Wednesday.
The coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to at least 173 countries and regions.
The virus killed as many as 9,276 people and nfected some 225,238 people across the globe, according Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
The website also said that around 85,826 people recovered from the virus.
