The Dhaka Premier League will begin on May 6. A total of 12 teams will take part in the 20-over-a-side cricket meet. This year the cricket competition will be held on 20-over format instead of 50-over format.
The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) decided to launch Dhaka Premier League in a meeting on Sunday.
The players’ transfer programme will not be held this year. The single league, super league and relegation league will be held.
After starting the league on May 6, the league will run until May 10. Then Sri Lanka Cricket team will arrive in the city to play three ODI matches against Bangladesh. So, the league will not be held at least 25 days due to Bangladesh-Sri Lanka series and the Eid holidays. After that the Dhaka Premier League will resume from May 31 and will continue up to June 17. Member Secretary of CCDM Ali Hossain confirmed this matter to the newsmen on Sunday.
Ali Hossain said, ” Every day two matches will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur and four matches will take place everyday at the two grounds of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP).”
Chairman of the CCDM Kazi Inam Ahmed said, “We have decided to re-launch the Dhaka Premier League. And the window I get on 6th May. At that time we will be able to start the league and it is a very difficult situation because we have very little time.”
Inam said, “The match that took place last year is a continuation of last year’s league and that one match we are abandoning. I am canceling it and re-launching it.
We’ve got two windows one with six days and the other with 15 days so far and maybe three more days can be added to it and we have to start the cricket competition with that.”
He said, ”We have talked to the representatives of all the participating clubs and we have agreed that the upcoming cricket meet’s format will be T20.”
He also said, “Since last year all the players were signed, with all the teams. All those players will play in that team. We also have to look at the side of the club. Since most clubs have already paid 30-40. Since that happened we have decided that all the players will stay with the club they were with.”
Inam said that they are yet to make a decision on the payment of the cricketers but club officials insisted it needs to be reduced.
