14 critically injured: Dhaka Judge Court lift collapses

Twelve persons, including six lawyers, the liftman, a sherestedar, a muhuri (clerk), an office assistant and an accused injured when the elevator wire of the old lift of the old building Dhaka Judge Court severed Thursday at about 10.30 am.
Of the injured lawyers, Advocate Shamsunnahar has been undergoing medical treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital. Other advocates include Mithu, Sohrab, Ayub Ali and Sultan Ahmed. They are under medical treatment at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. Of the injured persons others include- Peshkar (bench clerk) Sumon, Muhuri (clerk) Amin, office assistant Zahirul, Sujon who is an accused of a criminal case and liftman Jahangir Alam. Some of the injured persons including advocate Shamsunnahar and liftman Jahangir are in very critical condition.
After the incident, the victims were taken to nearby National Medical Hospital. Later, Shamsunnahar was taken to the NITOR whiled others victims were taken to the DMCH.
Ziyaur Rahman, Telephone Operator of Sadar Fire Service Station said, after incident we sent three fire units to rescue the victims. Meanwhile,
Hasanuzaman, ASI of Kotwali Police Station confirmed the incident to the media people on the occasion.
Mahbubey Alam, the Attorney General of Bangladesh inspected the spot in the afternoon at about 4 o’clock. Meanwhile, a committee was formed to make enquiry into the incident.
