Dhaka International Folk Fest’19 ends at Army Stadium

The Fifth edition of ‘Dhaka International Folk Fest (DIFF)’, the biggest ever folk music festival of South Asia, is underway at Bangladesh Army Stadium, Kurmitola in the city. Started on Thursday the festival ended yesterday. Jointly organised by ‘Sun Foundation’ and ‘Square Toiletries’, the festival was inaugurated by Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud MP.
More than 200 artistes from six countries across the world have joined this years’ folk fest.
Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen joined the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest. Other special guests on the occasion were- KM Khalid MP, State Minister for Cultural Affairs, Anjan Chowdhury, chairman of ‘Sun Foundation’ and Abdul Hai Sarkar, chairman of Dhaka Bank. For paying homage to the 6 departed legendary figures of Bangladeshi music arena- Subir Nandi, Bari Siddiqui, Ayub Bachchu, Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul, Shahnaz Rahmatullah and Fakir Abdur Rob Shah, a documentary based on these renowned singers was presented on the inaugural ceremony.
The fest initiated with dhamail dance performances presented by dance troupe Prema and Bhabna Nritya Dal. Then, Chveneburebi, folk band from Georgia, noted folk singer Shah Alam Sarkar and the king of Bhangra music Daler Mehndi graced the stage of the fest with their vibrant performances.
Hina Nasrullah from Pakistan, Habib Koité and Bamada from Mali, Malek Kawal, Fakir Shahbuddin, Kamruzzaman Rabbi and Shafikul Islam appeared on stage on the second day of the festival with their performances. On the concluding day, Kajal Dewan, Chandana Majumdar, Sattuma from Russia and Junoon from Pakistan will perform at the mega event.
