Dhaka Dynamites posted a thrilling four-wicket victory over Khulna Titans in their clash of the AKS Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Twenty20 Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.
Chasing Khulna’s fighting total of 156 for the loss of five wickets in the regulation 20 overs. Dhaka Dynamites reached the winning target making 157 for the loss of six wickets when they had just one ball to spare.
Dhaka Dynamites faced an early disaster as they lost five wickets for 41 runs.
Then Jahurul Islam and Kieron Pollard salvaged their team from danger contributing together 73 runs for the sixth wicket stand before Pollard was caught by wicketkeeper Dhiman Ghosh of Shafiul Islam when Dhaka’s total was 114 for the loss of six wickets.
Pollard cracked a stormy 55. His 24-ball innings was decorated with six sixes and three fours. It was Pollard’s 38th T20 half century.
After dismissal of Pollard, Jahurul Islam and Mosaddek Hossain carried their team into the winning spot.
Jahurul Islam remained unbeaten with 45. His 39-ball innings was belted with five fours.
Mosaddek Hossain remained unbeaten with 14. He hit one four in his 12-ball knock.
Shafiul Islam bagged a couple of wickets instead of 24 runs, while Akila Dananjaya, Abu Jayed, Jofra Archer and Mahmudullah Riyad took one wicket each for 17, 24, 26 and 29 runs respectively.
Earlier, Khulna Titans faced an early batting jolt as they lost four wickets for 71 runs.
Then Rilee Rossouw and Carlos Brathwaite repaired the damage adding together 54 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Rossouw was caught by Mossadek Hossain off Abu Hider when Khulna’s total was 125 for the loss of five wickets.
Brathwaite remained unbeaten with 64. His 29-ball hurricane innings was studded with six sixes and four fours. It was Brathwaite’s maiden T20 half century.
Rossouw made 34 from 30 balls featuring three fours.
After Rossouw’s dismissal, Brathwaite and Ariful Haque put on together 31 runs for the unbroken sixth wicket stand.
Abu Hider bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 40 runs, while Shahid Afridi, Sunil Narine and Shakib Al Hasan took one wicket for 23,22 and 32 runs respectively.
Jahurul Islam of Dhaka Dynamites was adjudged the Man of the Match.
