Dhaka Dynamites moved into the Qualifiers stage after beating Chittagong Vikings by six wickets in their Eliminator phase of the UCB 6th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Monday. On the other hand, Chittagong Vikings were eliminated from the ongoing 6th edition of BPL.
Chasing Chittagong’s modest total of 135 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs, Dhaka Dynamites sailed home making 136 for the loss of four wickets when they had 20 balls to spare.
Dhaka Dynamites made an auspicious start as openers Upul Tharanga and Sunil Narine put on together 44 runs before Sunil Narine was caught at the extra cover by Nayeem Hasan off Khaled Ahmed.
After Sunil’s departure, Tharanga and Rony Talukdar added together 44 runs for the second wicket partnership before Rony was trapped leg before wicket by Khaled Ahmed when Dhaka’s total was 88 for the loss of two wickets.
Later, Nurul Hasan and Kieron Pollard helped their team to reach the winning spot.
Tharanga notched up a superb 51. His 43-ball innings was laced with seven fours. Sunil Narine hit a quick-fire 31. His 16-ball knock was laced with six fours and a sixer.
Rony Taukdar made 20 from 13 balls, while Nurul Hasan remained unbeaten with 20.
Khaled Ahmed of Chittagong Vikings shone with the cherry. He claimed three wickets instead of 20 runs. Nayeem Hasan got one wicket for 28 runs.
Earlier, Chittagong Vikings had a modest start as opener Yasir Ali (8) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan off Rubel Hossain when Chittagong Vikings’ score was 22.
Then CS Delport and Shadman Islam repaired the damage contributing together 34 runs for the second wicket partnership before Delport was run out by a joint effort of Qazi Onik and Nurul Hasan when Chittagong’s total was 56 for the loss of two wickets.
Later, Chittagong Vikings failed to make any notable partnership.
Third-down Mosaddek Hossain was his team’s most successful batsman. He hit a polished 40. His 35-ball innings was studded with three fours and a sixer.
Delport notched up a fine 36. His 27-ball knock was belted with five fours and a sixer.
Shadman Islam made 24 from 19 balls featuring two fours and a sixer.
Sunil Narine of Dhaka Dynamites captured four wickets at the cost of 15 runs. Rubel Hossain and Qazi Onik took one wicket each for 27 and 36 runs respectively.
Sunil Narine was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
