Dhaka Dynamites reached the final of the UCB 6th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 cricket after defeating Rangpur Riders by five wickets in the second Qualifiers match at the flood-lit Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Wednesday.
Dhaka Dynamites will face Comilla Victorians in the final at the same venue tomorrow. The gala final will start at 7.00 pm. Sent into bat first, Rangpur Riders scored 142 off 19.4 overs. In reply, Dhaka Dynamites coasted home making 147 for the loss of five wickets remaining with 20 balls.
Dhaka Dynamites had an awful start as opener Upul Tharanga (4) was caught at the
mid-on by Nahidul Islam off Mashrafe Bin Mortaza when Dhaka’s score was just four.
Then opener Sunil Narine and one-down Rony Talukdar saved their team from early debacle adding together 37 runs for the second wicket partnership before Narine (14) was caught at the mid-wicket by RR Rossouw off Nazmul Islam when Dhaka’s total was 41 for the loss of two wickets.
After departure of Narine, Rony and Shakib Al Hasan built another notable partnership. They added together 34 runs in the third wicket stand before Shakib was bowled by BAC Howell when Dhaka’s score was 75 for the loss of three wickets.
Number-five batsman Kieron Pollard ( 14) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mohammad Mithun off Mashrafe Bin Mortaza when Dhaka’s score was 91 for the loss of four wickets.
After departure of Pollard, Rony could stay at the crease for a short period as he was run out by Ravi Bopara when Dhaka’s total was 97 for the loss of five wickets.
Rony hit a sparkle 35. His 24-ball innings was laced with four fours.
Shakib made 23 from 20 balls including two fours and a sixer.
Then Andre Russell played the key role to earn the much-awaited victory.
Russell and Nurul Hasan put on together 50 runs for the unbroken six-wicket stand.
Russell remained unbeaten with 40 runs. His 19-ball stormy innings was ornamented with five sixes.
Nurul Hasan remained unbeaten with nine runs.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza of Rangpur Riders bagged a couple of wickets for 32 runs, while BAC Howell and Nazmul Islam got one wicket each conceding 17 and 47 runs respectively.
Earlier, Rangpur Riders made a good start as openers Chris Gayle and Nadif Chowdhury put on together 42 runs in the opening stand before Nadif Chowdhury was caught at the mid-wicket by Kieron Pollard off Shuvagata Hom.
After dismissal of Nadif, Rangpur Riders lost two wickets quickly. Gayle (15) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan off Rubel Hossain when Rangpur’s score was 42 for the loss of two wickets.
Second-down RR Rossouw (0) was caught by Pollard off Rubel Hossain when the team’s total was 42 for the loss of three wickets.
Then Mohammad Mithun and Ravi Bopara repaired the damage contributing together 64 runs in the fourth wicket partnership before Mithun was caught behind by Nurul Hasan off Qazi Onik when Rangpur’s score was 106 for the loss of four wickets.
Later, rest of the Rangpur batsmen failed to make any notable partnership.
Ravi Bopara top-scored with 49. His 43-ball innings saw six fours and a sixer.
Mithun hit a polished 38. His 27-ball knock was belted with two sixes and two fours.
Nadif made 27 from 12 balls featuring three sixes and two fours.
Rubel Hossain shone with the cherry. He claimed four wickets at the cost of 23 runs, while Qazi Onik and Andre Russell bagged a pair of wickets each instead of 21 and 31 runs respectively.
Shuvagata Hom and Shakib Al Hasan took one wicket each for 18 and 29 runs respectively.
Rubel Hossain was adjudged the Man of the Match.
