Defending champions Dhaka Division lead by 92 runs against league leader Rangpur Division after the first innings on the third day of a sixth round match of the four-day Walton 16th National Cricket League at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.
In the day’s play, Rangpur Division resumed the first innings with overnight 231 for 5 in 72 overs and scored 306 runs for all in 97.3 overs, riding on the overnight sixth wicket stand of 129 runs in 36.1 overs by Dhiman Ghosh and Ariful Haque.
Number six Dhiman Ghosh scored team highest 81 runs off 121 balls with 12 fours while Ariful Haque scored 68 runs off 138 balls with seven fours.
Shurawardy Shuvo (27) was the only other double digit scorer for the side on the third day.
Sharif and Shahadat Hossain claimed four wickets each for 64 and 86 runs respectively while Dewan Sabbir and Mosharraf Hossain took one wicket apiece for 47 and 56 runs respectively in the first innings.
Dhaka Division (335 in 1st innings) opened the second innings and scored 63 runs for 2 wickets, at stumps, in 16.4 overs on the third day.
Jony Talukdar and Rakibul Hasan were batting on 21 and 2 runs respectively while Abdul Majid (21) and Rony Talukdar (11) were the other scorers for the side.
Ariful Haque and Shuvashish Roy took one wicket each for 15 and 27 runs respectively.
In the day’s other fixtures, Barisal Division extend their lead from 47 runs to 326 against Rajshahi Division after the first innings at BKSP Ground-2; Khulna Division took 101 runs lead against Dhaka Metro at BKSP Ground-3; and Chittagong Division trialed by 350 runs in the first innings against Sylhet Division at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.
However, the day’s play at all four venues were interrupted due to rain and bad day-light.
Barisal vs Rajshahi
Barisal Division (235 in 1st innings) resumed the second innings on the third day with overnight 59 for 2 in 16 overs and eventually scored 338 runs for 7 wickets, at stumps, in 79 overs, spurred by the seventh wicket stand of 112 runs in 16.4 overs between Mosaddek Hossain and Al-Amin.
Mosaddek scored team highest 88 runs off 99 balls with 11 fours and two sixes while Al-Amin was batting with run-a-ball 67 that featured 11 fours and a six.
Overnight batsman Fazle Rabbi, the other notable scorer on the third day, added 75 runs off 147 balls with 11 fours.
Sanjamul Islam grabbed three wickets for 116 runs while and Mukter Ali took two wickets 28 runs in the second innings.
Khulna vs Dhaka Metro
Dhaka Metro resumed the first innings on the third day with overnight 186 for 3 in 65 overs and scored 341 runs for all in 119 overs.
Overnight batsman Mehrab Hossain Jr scored team highest 81 runs off 187 balls with 11 fours and two sixes while Sharif Ullah (57) was the other notable scorer for the side on the third day.
Veteran spinner Abdur Razzaqk claimed five wickets for 135 runs in the first innings while Ziaur Rahman, Mostafizur Rahman, Al-Amin Hossain and Mehedi Hasan Miraz took one wicket each for 11, 30, 52 and 71 runs respectively.
Khulna Division (416 runs in the first innings) opened the second innings on the third day and remained at stumps scoring 26 runs without losing any wickets in 4 overs.
Imrul Kayes and Mehedi Hasan were batting on 12 and 10 respectively when the bails were drawn for the day.
Sylhet vs Chittagong
Replying to Sylhet Division 507/8 (dec) in the 1st innings, Chittagong Division resumed the first innings on the third day with overnight 45 for 1 in 19 overs and scored 157 runs for 6 wickets, at stumps, in 64 overs.
Number five Nazim Uddin scored team highest 48 runs 82 ball with eight fours.
Faisal Hossain and Iftekhar Sajjad Rony were batting on 18 and 8 runs respectively while skipper Nafees Iqbal (27), Abdullah Al Mamun (25) and Irfaan Sukkur (20) were the other double digit scorers for their side.
Ahmed Sadiqur grabbed three wickets for 48 runs in the first innings while Nabil Samad, Abul Hasan and Abu Jayed took one wicket each for 24, 27 and 29 runs respectively.
