Bangladesh and India will discuss anti-terror cooperation, among other issues, between the two countries during their Home Minister-level meeting to be held in New Delhi on July 28.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will leave for New Delhi on Wednesday morning to hold the meeting with his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh, a senior official at the Home Ministry told UNB on Saturday.
The minister will hold discussions to further strengthen cooperation between Bangladesh and India in the areas of security,
border management, border infrastructure, training and capacity building and people-to-people exchanges, he said.
Khan will lead a 12-member delegation, the official said adding that he will also meet Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his four-day visit.
The Home Minister-level talks between the two countries takes place barely a month after Dhaka café attack in which 22 people, mostly foreign nationals including an Indian girl were killed.
On July 21, the Indian Prime Minister in a videoconference told his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina not to feel alone in her fight against terrorism.
Mentioning that the support of full of India is with Hasina, Modi also told her Bangladesh counterpart, “In your (Hasina’s) fight against terrorists, India is always ready to extend all sorts of support.”
Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and Director General of Border Security Force and Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau are also likely to attend the talks from Indian side, diplomatic sources said. The last Home Minister-level talks was held in January, 2013 in Bangladesh.
