Dhaka, Delhi agree to expand energy coop to solve crisis

Bangladesh and India in a dialogue on Saturday agreed to expand energy cooperation between the countries to avert future energy crisis in this region.
The second round of energy dialogue between the two countries was held in a Dhaka hotel yesterday. Energy Division Secretary Nazimuddin Chowdhury led the Bangladesh team while Secretary of Petroleum and Gas K D Tripathy led Indianside.
According to a statement issued by Power,
Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, Bangladesh and India discussed different issues including gas exploration in offshore by Indian company ONGC Videsh Ltd, R-LNG terminal building by Petronet (India), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) Proposed R-LNG supply.
The issues also include Bangladesh’s joining in Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipe line link, its gas import proposal from Turkmenistan and Iran using Indian gas network, joint effort to import gas from Myanmar, Diesel import from Indian Nomalighar, LPG terminal build in Chittagong by IOCL, MoU signing with Bangladesh Geological Survey Directorate, Training for officials and Blue Economy.
After the dialogue both the secretaries emphasized to continue and expand energy sector cooperation between the two countries. K D Tripathy appreciated Bangladesh Energy Division for their hospitality here.
The third round energy dialogue of the two countries will be held in Delhi in March next year.
