Chattogram Bureau :
Four years ago, the railway authorities announced that the bullet train from the capital Dhaka to the port city of Chittagong could be reached in just one hour. After that feasibility study and design has also been prepared.
But now the dream of that bullet train is stuck.
Concerned people say that the infrastructure of Dhaka-Chittagong railway is not conducive to high speed trains. Ongoing projects, including the conversion of existing single lines to double lines, have to be completed before embarking on this mega project.
Although thousands of crores of rupees have been spent on the infrastructural development of the railways, the railways have not been able to introduce electric trains on any of the railways in the country.
The project of launching bullet train before the introduction of electric train is not realistic. It is difficult to run a bullet train where the new engine of the train becomes useless within a year.
To implement the project, China Railway Design Corporation and Majumdar Enterprise of Bangladesh jointly started feasibility study and design.
The contractor submitted the project to the Railways in October after completing the feasibility study and detailed design of the project at a cost of about Tk 110 crore.
