National Cricket: Dhaka beat Chittagong by five wickets

A brilliant 91-run by Mehrab Hossain Jr steered Dhaka DSA to earn a facile five-victory over Chittagong DSA in the 35th National Cricket Championship at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Sunday.
Sent into bat first, Chittagong DSA was bowled out for 149 runs in 47.4 overs. Lower order Iftekhar Sajjad Rony (38), skipper Sajjadul Haque (37), Kazi Kamrul (21) and Mirajul Haque (18) were the notable scorers for Chittagong.
Saddam Khan was the most successful among the Dhaka bowlers taking four wickets for 23 runs while Meraj Hossain and Al Amin took two wickets each conceding 18 and 20 runs respectively.
In reply, Dhaka DSA reached their target scoring 155 for 5 in 41.5 overs.
After the dismissal of four top order batsmen for just nine runs in 3.5 overs, two down Mehrab Hossain Jr pairing with number six Ashiqul Islam guided the team near victory contributing 134 runs in the 5th wicket stand.
Mehrab Hossain Jr hammered 128-ball 91 runs featuring 12 fours and two sixes and was adjudged man of the match while Ashiqul Islam contributed an unconquered 45 runs off 101 balls, hitting two fours and one six.
Merajul Haque and Moniruzzaman claimed two wickets each conceding 19 and 26 runs respectively.
The day’s other match between Barisal and Narayanganj DSAs was abandoned at 11:30 am due to wed outfield following rain at the Shaheed Aminuddin Stadium in Pabna on Sunday.
