Dhaka Bar election ends Wednesday

The two-day annual election of the biggest Bar Association of the country ended yesterday (Thursday). The election began on Wednesday and voting continued from 9 am to 5 pm each day.
Of the 19,847 lawyer voters, 11,382 cast their votes in the two days’ Dhaka Bar Association Election 2022-2023. On Thursday, 6,835 voters cast their votes. The lawyers from the pro-Awami League White Panel and pro-BNP-Jamaat Blue panel contested in the election.
From each panel, 23 lawyers contested 23 posts. Besides, other two lawyers were in the race for the positions of President and General Secretary as independent candidates.
From the White Panel, advocate Mahbubur Rahman vied for the post of President, Md Delwar Hossain Patwary Senior Vice President, AKM Shafiqul Islam (Swapan) Vice President, MD Firojur Rahman (Monto) General Secretary and Mohammod Nur Hossain for position of Treasurer. Besides, 7 vied for secretarial posts and 11 lawyers were in the race for the positions of Executive Committee members.
On the contrary, 12 other candidates contested secretarial posts from the Blue penal. They included President Md Khorshed Mia Alam, Md Abdur Razzak Senior Vice President, Md Shahiduzzaman Vice President, Syed Nazrul Islam General Secretary and Abdir Rashid Mollah contested for the post of the Treasurer.
Other seven lawyers vied for other secretarial posts. The posts are- Senior Assistant General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, Library Secretary, Cultural Secretary, Office Secretary, Sports Secretary and Social Welfare Secretary. Besides, 11 others vied for the positions of Executive Committee members of the bar association.
The result of the election is expected to be declared on Saturday after counting the cast votes. Of the more than 27,600 lawyers of Dhaka Bar Association, 19,847 were listed as voters of the bar.
