The two-day election of Dhaka Bar Association for the session 2017-18 began on Wednesday amidst enthusiasm. Fifty-six candidates from two panels are vying for 27 posts.
From the pro-Awami League White Panel, advocates Abdur Rahman Howlader, Kazi Shahanara Yasmin, Md Monjur Alam (Monju), Md Ayubur Rahman and Md Hasibur Rahman Dider are contesting for the posts of
President, Senior Vice-President, Vice-President, General Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
While Advocates Khorshed Alam, Md Ruhul Amin, Kazi Md Abdul Barik, Md Azizul Islam Khan (Bachchu) and Md Lutfar Rahman (Azad) are in the race on behalf of the Blue Panel of the pro-BNP Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya.
Besides, 15 other lawyers have filed nomination papers. Of the 16,198 voters, 3518 cast their votes yesterday. In 2016-17, the pro-Awami League White Panel won 21 posts including the posts of President and General Secretary, while the pro-BNP Blue Panel got six posts.
