Dhaka Bar Assc poll ends today

The two days’ voting in Dhaka Bar Association (DBA) election for the session 2018-2019 began at the association building yesterday.
The casting of votes started at 9 am on Tuesday and continued till 5 pm with an hour break for lunch. The second day’s franchise will begin at 9 am today.
Fifty-five candidates are vying for 27 posts. This year, total voters are 16,129. Of them, 3,652 cast their votes on the first day (Tuesday). Two panels are contesting in the election.
Chief Election Commissioner of the DBA Khandaker Abdul Mannan said, of the
bar 22,025 members, 16,129 are now voters and they are expected to use their voting rights in the election by today (Wednesday).
The aspirant candidates from White Panel are Abdur Rahman Hawlader-President, Mizanur Rahman Mamun -General Secretary, Kazi Shahanara Yasmin-Senior Vice-President, Md Ruhul Amin-Vice President, Arifur Rahman Choudhury-Treasurer, Mustafizur Rahman Talukhder Dipu -Senior Assistant General Secretary, Kamal Hossain Patwary-Assistant General Secretary, Moniruzzaman Monir-Library Secretary, Taslima Akhter Rita-Cultural Secretary, Abdur Rashid -Office Secretary, Humayun Kabir Khandaker-Social Welfare Secretary, Sadia Afrin Shilpi-Sports Secretary. Besides, 15 more lawyer candidates are in the race for 15 posts of Executive Committee member of the association.
Twenty seven candidates from the Blue Panel are contesting in the election. They are Golam Mostafa Khan-President, Abdus Salam Dewan- Senior Vice President, AR Mizanur Rahman- Vice President, Md Hossain Ali Khan (Hassan)- General Secretary, Md Lutfar Rahman (Azad)- Treasurer, Md Nihar Hossain Faruk–Senior Assistant General Secretary, Mohammad Showkat Ullah Bhuiyan (Chhotton)-Assistant General Secretary, ABM Iftekharul Haque -Library Secretary, Shahnaz Begum (Shireen) – Cultural Secretary, Md Zulfikar Ali Haider (JIbon)-Office Secretary, MABM Khairul Islam (Liton)-Social Welfare Secretary and Mohammad Khalilor Rahman (Khalil)-Sports Secretary. Besides them, 15 other lawyers are vying for the posts of Executive Committee Members. Another lawyer is in the race as an independent candidate.
