Giant Dhaka Abahani Limited dropped points in their opening match of the Manyavar Bangladesh Premier Football League after playing a 2-2 draw with old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Wednesday.
After a barren first half in the day’s match, Hungarian forward Czabolic Zorba put Abahani ahead in the 57th minute by a placing shot utilising a curving low cross of Nasirul Islam from right flank (1-0).
But Abahani’s lead was very short-lived as the Nigerian forward of Rahmatganj Gideon Solomon found the net in the following minute by a ground shot from left edge of the box, capitalising on a neat through pass of defender Sumon Dey from the midfield (1-1).
Abahani took some time to resettle themselves after suffering the blow and played cautiously with counterattacks.
In the 72nd minute, Nasir made a curved cross to another Hungarian Gabo Damien who headed the ball home from a close range (2-1).
Substitute forward Mannaf Rabbi again restored the parity in the stoppage time by a cool placing shot after dodging past Abahani goalie Ziaur Rahman to snatch an important point from sports powerhouse.
