Dhaka Abahani Limited will face Sonali bank SRC in the opening match of the Marcel Club Cup Hockey Tournament at the Moulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium today. The match begins at 4.15 pm. In the day’s other match, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited will meet Bangladesh Sporting Club at 2.30 pm at the same venue.
Bangladesh Hockey Federation will arrange the hockey competition under auspices of Walton Group.
A total of nine teams splitting into two groups will take part in the hockey competition. Usha Krira Chakra, Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club, Sadharan Bima Krira Sangha, Ajax Sporting Club are in Group A while Dhaka Abahani Limited, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited, Wari Club, Bangladesh Sporting Club, Sonali Bank SRC are in Group B.
Marking the upcoming hockey competition, a press conference was held at the conference room of Bangladesh Hockey Federation on Sunday. Joint-Secretary of Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) Anvir Adil Khan Babu, Senior Additional Director of Walton Group FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn, Treasurer of BHF and Secretary of the League Committee Kazi Mainuzzaman Pila, Joint-Secretary of the League Committee Jafrul Islam Babul were present at the conference.
The champions will be awarded Taka seventy thousand while the runners-up will get Taka thirty five thousand as prize-money.
