Bangladesh reports 40 deaths from coronavirus, the biggest fatalities so far from the virus in a single-day on Sunday.
Besides it also confirmed detection of 2,545 cases of Covid-19 infection in the same period which was also the biggest record of infections in a day, so far.
“The death toll from the novel coronavirus outbreak in Bangladesh has climbed to 650 adding the new fatalities and the number of infections is raising the count to 47,153,” Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said it in a regular press briefing in Dhaka on Sunday.
The highest number of both the deaths and infections reported in 24 hours period came the same day as the government relaxed the nationwide shutdown measures.
Professor Sultana said, the recovery count also rose to 9,781 after 406 coronavirus patients were released from different hospitals across the country in the same period.
She said that the recovery rate is now 20.74 percent.
A total of 11,876 samples were tested at 52 authorised labs across the country during that time, she said.
The DGHS official said also that a total of 3, 08, 930 people were tested so far in the country.
According to the DGHS official, among the deceased, 33 were male and seven were female.
She said also that of them, 28 were from Dhaka, eight from Chattogram, two from Khulna, one from Rajshahi and another was from Rangpur division.
Among them, she said, one was aged 21-30, five between 31-40, 11 between 41-50, eight within 51-60, 11 between 61-70, and four between 71-80 years old.
In the period, total 391 people were put under isolation and 126 people were released from isolations.
Dr. Sultana said, total 5,794 people were put in isolation so far and 3,016 were released in total so far across the country.
Besides, a total of 2,947 people were put under while 3,042 others were released from quarantine across the country.
She said also that total 60,181 people were under home and institutional quarantine.
Nasima Sultana urged the people to follow the directives and advises of the DGHS and the World Health Organisation (WHO) to keep safe from the disease.
Bangladesh confirmed its first coronavirus cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.
Even if the government extended general holidays until May 30, it has decided to resume offices, workplaces and public transportations in limited scale from Sunday.
During the cases of infection and death are surging from the Covid-19, thousands of people started working to protect their livelihoods.
Public health experts warned that move might worsen the coronavirus situation in the country.
