About six and a half months after the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC’s) recommendation, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has blacklisted 14 institutions for reported anomalies and corruption in procurement of medical equipment for different medical colleges and hospitals.
The director administration of the DGHS issued a directive in this regard on Wednesday, reports Somoy Television referring to a document of the DGHS.
The 14 institutions have embezzled Tk 131 crore in the name of purchasing different medical equipment, according to the report.
The document also shows that nine cases were filed against the 14 institutions for embezzling Tk 131
crore through corruption. The ACC filed the cases in 2018 and 2019.
The ACC secretary sent a letter to the cabinet secretary on December 12, 2019 to blacklist the 14 institutions after investigating allegations of irregularities and corruption in the procurement of MSRs, heavy machines and other equipment for the medical colleges, hospitals and institutions under the control of the DGHS.
Based on the ACC’s recommendation, the health ministry recently sent a letter to the DGHS to blacklist the 14 suppliers and proprietors.
