The UK Department for International Development has released pound 850,000 for immediate support to the flood victims of Bangladesh.
About 65,000 people will receive unconditional cash grant and hygiene kits, which will meet critical need, at least for a month, according to the British High Commission in Dhaka.
“We’re closely monitoring the situation over the coming days to see if there’s further flooding,” said the High Commission on Monday.
Heavy monsoon rain and water from upstream sources have triggered river levels to rise and cause flooding in northern and southeastern parts of Bangladesh, affecting an estimated 4 million people.

Bangladesh, an emergency pooled fund, funded by the UK Aid and managed by 46 international, national, and local NGOs of Bangladesh.
On July 16, two Start Fund Bangladesh alerts were raised by member organisations to address the needs of the most vulnerable populations in Bandarban, Jamalpur, Gaibandha and Kurigram.
The alerts (B013 and B014) were allocated by the committee on July 17 for a total of pound 850,000.
On July 19, MJSKS, GUK, along with two consortiums led by Christian Aid (with Dhaka Ahsania Mission and HelpAge) and Islamic Relief Bangladesh (with Care Bangladesh and Concern Worldwide) were awarded a total of pound 600,000 to reach the affected communities in Kurigram, Jamalpur, and Gaibandha.
Besides, World Vision and Caritas were awarded with a total of pound 250,000 for their responses in Bandarban.
These awarded agencies will be providing cash and WASH support for the most affected households living in the worst hit districts, on behalf of Start Fund Bangladesh.
