An autopsy has revealed that seven-year old Samiya Afrin Sayma, who was found dead in Wari, was subjected to sexual assault.
Test results and other examinations confirm that the victim, Samiya Afrin Sayma, was raped and then strangled with a rope, Dr Sohel Mahmud, head of the DMC Forensic Medicine Department briefed journalists around 2:00pm after an autopsy on her body.
Police recovered Silverdale School student Samiya’s body from an under construction building’s eighth floor at Banogram in Wari on Friday night.
Nurul Amin, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Wari Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said, “After taking permission from her mother, Sayma left her apartment on Friday evening to play with other children of the building as she did every day. Sayma had remained missing since then.
The deceased’s businessman father Abdus Salam said that he returned home around 7:00pm and could not find Sayma in her room. He began searching with his wife. When they failed to find the girl in their fifth-floor apartment, they began checking the other floors, some of which were under construction.
Around 8:20pm, they found her body with a rope tied around her neck in the kitchen of the unfinished apartment on the eighth floor.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner (Wari Zone) Mohammad Shamsuzzaman said the victim’s father filed a case on Saturday morning
Wari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azizur Rahman said that they detained six persons, including the security guard and the caretaker of the building, to interrogate in this connection.
